Kidney/Gallic Stones: Pain caused by stones in the urinary tract or gallbladder. Labor: Sometimes used to shorten the duration of the first stage of labor (under medical supervision).

Drotaverine is a selective inhibitor of the enzyme phosphodiesterase IV (PDE4). By inhibiting this enzyme, it increases the levels of cyclic AMP ($cAMP$) in smooth muscle cells. This leads to a decrease in calcium uptake by the cells, causing the smooth muscles of the gut, uterus, or urinary tract to relax and stop cramping.

Common: Nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, or dizziness. Occasional: Headache, constipation, or a slight drop in blood pressure (hypotension). Rare: Allergic reactions (rash or itching) and palpitations.
