Silodosin 7mg, 8mg Capsules
Uses of Silodosin 7mg, 8mg Capsules

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH): To treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostate in men. Urinary Retention: To help improve the flow of urine and reduce the feeling of incomplete bladder emptying. Kidney Stones: Sometimes used "off-label" to help small stones pass through the ureter more easily.

How Silodosin 7mg, 8mg Capsules Works

Silodosin selectively blocks the alpha-1A receptors located in the prostate and the neck of the bladder. By blocking these receptors, it causes the smooth muscles in these areas to relax. This relaxation widens the urinary passage, allowing urine to flow out of the bladder more freely and with less effort.

Side Effects of Silodosin 7mg, 8mg Capsules

Common: Retrograde ejaculation (see FAQs below), dizziness, or a stuffy/runny nose. Cardiovascular: Orthostatic hypotension (a drop in blood pressure when standing up), though this is less common with Silodosin than with older alpha-blockers. Gastrointestinal: Diarrhea or abdominal pain. Vision: "Floppy Iris Syndrome" during cataract surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Silodosin 7mg, 8mg Capsules
What is retrograde ejaculation, and is it dangerous?

It is the most common side effect of Silodosin where semen enters the bladder instead of exiting the penis during orgasm. It is harmless and reversible once the medication is stopped.

Does Silodosin shrink the prostate?

No. Silodosin only relaxes the muscles to improve flow. It does not shrink the actual size of the prostate (drugs like Finasteride are used for that).

When is the best time to take this capsule?

It must be taken with a meal, preferably at the same time every day, to ensure proper absorption and reduce the risk of dizziness.

How fast does it start working?

Many men notice a significant improvement in their urinary flow within 2 to 6 hours after taking the very first dose.

Can women take Silodosin?

Silodosin is not FDA-approved for women. However, doctors occasionally prescribe it off-label to help women pass kidney stones or treat specific bladder outlet issues.

I have a cataract surgery planned; should I tell my surgeon?

Yes, absolutely. Silodosin can cause 'Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome' (IFIS). Your surgeon needs to know so they can take specific precautions during the procedure.

Does Silodosin affect blood pressure?

Because it is highly selective for the prostate, it has a lower effect on blood pressure than older drugs, but it can still cause lightheadedness when standing up quickly.

Can I drink alcohol with Silodosin?

Alcohol can increase the dizzying effects of Silodosin and further lower your blood pressure. It is best to limit intake.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Take it as soon as you remember with food. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Do not double the dose.

Is it a long-term medication?

Yes, BPH is a chronic condition. Most patients take Silodosin long-term to keep urinary symptoms under control.
